In a continued effort to reduce firearm accidents, the State of California requires all first time resident hunters, regardless of age, to complete hunter education training or pass a comprehensive equivalency test before purchasing a hunting license. The California Department of Fish and Game conducts training throughout the state. Each year approximately 30,000 students complete the states ten-hour minimum hunter education course. Statistics show hunter education training is a success.

Students have a choice of attending a traditional Hunter Education course or an On-Line course where most of the study is completed on a computer but still requires a four hour classroom session. Both courses are taught by California State Certified instructors.

Topics covered include: Ethics & Hunter Responsibility, Wildlife Management, Firearms - Rifle, Pistols & Shotguns, Muzzleloading, Firearms Safety & Handling, Bowhunting, Hunting Regulations, Wildlife Identification, Survival & First Aid and Game Care

All of the information needed to pass the course will be provided during the class. Students are required to attend the entire course and pass a written examination to obtain a Hunter Education Completion Certificate. Most of our courses also include a live fire exercise with .22 caliber rifles.

Courses normally held monthly.  Preregistration is required as space is limited. Registration for courses in Santa Clara is handled by Reed's Indoor Range. Class fee: $20.00 per person.  (On-line course also requires a $24.50 website fee).
