FIRST STEPS 2* & 3  

            EVENING PISTOL COURSE

 

 

This course taught at Reed's Indoor Range is ideal for the person who has no experience in firearms and is interested in learning safety and basic marksmanship with a handgun.  During the first two evenings, students will be instructed in gun safety, and will become familiar with a selection of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.  On the range, the student will fire both .22 caliber revolvers and autoloaders.  Continuing in the classroom, the course will cover cleaning, storage, and selection of a personal handgun. The course fee of $155.00 includes all range classroom fees, books, targets, ammunition and the use of handguns, and eye & ear protection.  On the optional third evening, students will be introduced to qualification shooting and have the opportunity to shoot a variety of larger caliber handguns. Various techniques for shooting with both hands and single handed will be explored. The cost for the third evening is an additional $75.00.  Note: Students who have completed the two evening course may sign up for the third evening at any subsequent course.

 

         BASIC PISTOL COURSE

 

 

This course taught at the Livermore/Pleasanton Rod & Gun Club is ideal for the person who has no experience in firearms and is interested in learning safety and basic marksmanship with a handgun.  During this one day class, students will be instructed in gun safety, and will become familiar with a selection of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. On the range, the student will fire both .22 caliber revolvers and autoloaders. Continuing in the classroom, the course will cover cleaning, storage, and selection of a personal handgun.  Students will also have the opportunity to fire one or two shots from a selection of modern day centerfire handguns from .380 caliber up to .44 magnum (selection may vary). The course fee of $165.00 includes all range and classroom fees, books, targets, ammunition and the use of handguns, and eye & ear protection.

 

 

  FIRST STEPS SHOTGUN COURSE

 

 

The NRA First Steps Shotgun Course will introduce beginning shooters to the fundamentals of shotgun safety and marksmanship. The course includes information on the various types of shotgun actions, the uses of different chokes, shotshell choices, cleaning and storage. The many uses of shotguns, including trap, skeet, sporting clays, hunting and self defense will be discussed. Live fire will be held on one of the many Livermore-Pleasanton Rod  Gun Club Trap Ranges. The $150.00 per person course fee includes all instruction, range time, materials and use of equipment.

 

 

             INTRODUCTION TO

              SHOTGUN COURSE

 

 

In this introductory 3 1/2 hour course, students will learn about firearms safety, the various shotgun action, the uses of different chokes, shotshell choices, cleaning and storage. The many uses of shotguns, including trap, skeet, sporting clays, hunting and self defense will be discussed. Actual shooting will focus on self-defense as it s the only activity appropriate for Reed's Indoor Range. The $150.00 per person course fee includes all instruction, range time, materials and use of equipment.

      FIRST STEPS RIFLE COURSE

 

 

The NRA First Steps Rifle Course will introduce beginning shooters to the fundamentals of rifle safety and marksmanship.  The course includes familiarization with different types of rifle actions, ammunition, marksmanship fundamentals, cleaning and storage. Students will fire .22 caliber rifles from various positions on an indoor range. (The fundamentals learned in shooting .22 rifles can be applied to larger caliber rifles as used in hunting and competition.)  This is a three hour one evening course.  The course fee of $150.00 includes all range & classroom fees, books, targets, ammunition and the use of rifles, and eye & ear protection.

 

 

          PERSONAL PROTECTION

            IN THE HOME COURSE

 

 

The NRA Personal Protection in the Home Course is designed to develop a students basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential for the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family.  This nine hour course will cover defensive handgun skills, firearms and the law, differences between concealment and cover, levels of awareness, strategies for home safety, responding to a violent confrontation, selecting a handgun for self-defense and shooting and training opportunities.  Prerequisite for the class is an NRA Basic or First Steps Pistol Course of by instructor's permission. The course fee is $200.00 per person and includes all range and classroom fees, target, classroom materials and instruction.  Students are required to provide a handgun, 200 rounds of ammunition, and eye & ear protection. (For courses held at Reed's Indoor Range, ammunition may be purchased and firearms and eye & ear protection may be rented from the range.)Note: 1. NRA firearms courses are available to individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state or local laws and are of good repute. A sample of disqualified individuals would include convicted felons, person adjudicated to be mentally defective and non-immigrant aliens. 2. Individuals under twenty one years of age must make special arrangements with the Instructor. 3. Pregnant women are encouraged to check with their doctors before attending a course.

 

 

   METALLIC RELOADING COURSE

 

 

The NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading Course is eight hours in length and teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to reload centerfire pistol and rifle cartridges.  The course fee is $175.00 per person and includes all classroom fees, materials and the use ofreloading equipment.  The lead Instructor for this class, Mr. Sam Grow, is an NRA Certified Instructor for rifles, pistols and shotguns as well as reloading shot shells and metallic cartridges. He is also a long time Hunter Education Instructor and has been reloading his own ammunition for over 30 years.
